Chapter Sixteen

Lincoln

Lincoln slammed the passenger door shut before dropping his head back onto the seat with a heavy thud. “An entire day wasted.”

“Maybe,” Nash said with a shrug as he started the truck. “Or you could look at it that we have these guys running scared. Every drop house has been emptied out, but they left some things behind. We’re catching up to them.”

“I guess.” Lincoln took out his cell phone so he could message the rest of the team and his boss. The message thread showed that all the teams were running into the same issues. Since they’d picked up the two drug dealers, the suppliers they were after had gone underground. And no one had seen them around town in a couple of days.

“We’re making it difficult for them to get the drugs on the street,” Nash pointed out. “And they’re moving fast and making mistakes.”

Peering out through the front windshield at the crime scene techs working the scene where they’d just exited, Lincoln knew he should be happy. That abandoned house had been used as a drug den for several months and it was now shut down. But where would they next pop up? “I know.” He sighed as he stuffed his phone back in his pocket. “It’s just frustrating as fuck!”

“I know something that will cheer you up,” Nash said with a grin. “It’s past the end of shift. I’ll drop you off at the station and you can go see your boy.”

Lincoln found himself smiling with his partner. He couldn’t wait to see his boy. They’d texted a couple times during the day, but they’d both been busy.

“To the station.” Lincoln pointed out the windshield.

Nash snorted before putting the truck in gear. “Sounds like everything is working out.”

“Yeah.” Lincoln didn’t share any of the intimate details with his partner, but Nash knew him and knew what kind of relationship he was interested in. “He’s absolutely perfect for me.”

“Hell, I could tell that the first time we were in the coffee shop and you about tripped over air when you saw him.”

That might not have been his finest moment. “It’s not like I expected the perfect boy to just drop into my lap.”

“That’s true. For most of us, it’s quite the opposite.”

“You’ll find your people,” Lincoln assured his partner. “When you least expect it.”

“In the meantime, it’s just me and my right hand,” Nash joked.

“You could try going back to the club.”

“Nah, I think I’m over the club scene. There hasn’t been anyone new in ages and…and I just don’t know if I really fit in there.”

“You fit,” Lincoln told him.

“Sure, a bisexual poly forty-year-old man.”

“You’re not forty yet,” Lincoln pointed out. “Not that there’s anything wrong with being forty.” He was forty-two, so he had some knowledge there.

“I’m too old for the twinks and not young enough for the Doms. I’m stuck in this stupid in-between stage. It doesn’t help that I know I’m looking for two people. Most couples just want a third for a night or two.
